Brief

Design a product/system which would reduce the amount of waste leaving the Hospital Operating Room while also creating a closed loop system that would benefit both the workers and the hospital.

Solution 

The design takes a simple shape though it solves the issue extremely effectively. Green Waste is a Soft Plastic Shredder (LDPE Plastic), which cuts down the plastic to reduce the overall volume. This allows the shredder to be compact and non obtrusive within the Operating Room. Another key factor was its simplicity to use as Prep Nurses did not have a lot of time, so the shredder is a 3 step process; (1. Open shredder and put plastic in, 2. Close Shredder, 3. Swipe the side of the bin to start the motor).

Through testing this process has been validated and can be done quickly and is a simple process for hospital staff to learn.
