Brief

This project was about designing a barbecue apparatus for public use in parks. The design had to be culturally sensitive as it facilitated different cultural cooking techniques and equipment. Also gathering size had to be focused on, as groups of 20+ people could be using the BBQ at the time.

Solution

After multiple meetings with the Forrest Lake ward where we were designing the BBQ for, we ended up designing a BBQ and seating solution which allowed for large amount of people to take part of the BBQ even and feel included.  Our BBQ design took a similar shape to the current BBQ hot plates, however had an integrated wok hot plate which accommodated for both traditional and western woks. The seating design allowed for inclusivity of all participants in the eating and the preparation of food. The curved seats and benches allowed for people to chat to everyone while still having direct access to the people cooking on the BBQ. For further considerations on this project the seats were split at the ends to accommodate large wheelchairs.
